L’influence de la prégermination au moyen de différents agents d’activation sur la vigueur des graines de piment (Capsicum annuum) du cultivar Hot Queen a été étudiée. Les graines ont été stérilisées en surface par trempage dans une solution d’hypochlorite de sodium (5 %) pendant cinq minutes puis séchées sur du papier-filtre. Ces graines stérilisées ont été activées dans de l’eau distillée (dH2O), du NaCl (1 %), de l’acide salicylique (AS, 50 ppm), de l’acide acétylsalicylique (ASA, 50 ppm), de l’acide ascorbique (AsA, 50 ppm), du PEG-8000 (PEG, -1,25 MPa) et du KNO3 (3 %) dans l’obscurité durant 48 heures. Tous les traitements de prégermination ont significativement amélioré le pourcentage final de germination (PFG) des graines de piment contre témoin. Les graines activées dans du KNO3, de l’acide ascorbique, de l’acide salicylique et de l’acide acétylsalicylique ont affiché les pourcentages finaux de germination maximum : 100 % respectivement. Les graines activées au KNO3 ont surpassé tous les autres agents d’activation en diminuant le temps de 50 % de germination et en augmentant la longueur des racines et des pousses ainsi que le poids frais des pousses (Figure 1).
