Foliar application of potassium nitrate effectively increased K content in 'Hass' avocado leaves.

The effect of foliar application of potassium nitrate on 'Hass'(Persea Americana Mill.) avocado trees in production was studied. Potassium nitrate (KNO3 ) was sprayed on the leaves at a rate of 3.6 kg per 100 liters of water. A single spray was applied to the expanded leaf at half or one month after full expansion. A combination of two and three times of these spray treatments was also performed. Leaves were wetted to the point that the spray solution began to drip from the leaves. Approximately 11.35 liters of spray solution was applied. Foliar applications of potassium nitrate (KNO3 ) were effective in increasing the level of K in the leaves of 'Hass' avocado trees. Two or three sprays were the most effective in increasing potassium (K) content. The results indicated that spraying one month after full leaf expansion was the most effective time to increase potassium (K) content in avocado trees. There were several interactions between macro- and micronutrient content of leaves induced by potassium (K) applications. All treatments significantly increased leaf Zn level compared to the control. The three-spray treatments increased the Mn level over the control.
